At the Cannes Film Festival, Amahoro Coalition joined fellow founding partners of the Displacement Film Fund (DFF) to announce the five recipient filmmakers for the Fund’s second cycle of short film grants.
The selected laureates are Mohammed Amer, Annemarie Jacir, Akuol de Mabior, Bao Nguyen and Rithy Panh.
“We are proud to be a Founding Partner of the Displacement Film Fund because we believe in the power of film to reshape narratives and amplify voices that are too often unheard or unseen. At Amahoro Coalition, we also see film, and the creative industry more broadly, as an emerging pathway for job creation, economic opportunity, and cultural influence across Africa,” said Isaac Kwaku Fokuo, Curator at Amahoro Coalition.
The announcement ceremony was hosted by Cate Blanchett, actor, producer and global Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, together with IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund, alongside a broader coalition of creators, business leaders and philanthropists behind the Displacement Film Fund (DFF).

Established in 2025, the DFF was created to champion and finance the work of displaced filmmakers, as well as filmmakers with a strong track record of telling authentic stories about displacement and human mobility.
Each of the nominated filmmakers will be bestowed with a production grant of €100,000, with their completed projects having their World Premieres at International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2027, running 28 January – 7 February.
