Day 1: Kakuma

The African Forum on Displacement 2025 began with impact — not in a boardroom, but on the ground. Selected delegates and partners were invited to visit Kakuma refugee camp, offering them a firsthand look at the challenges and opportunities facing displaced communities.

During the visit, participants engaged with Amahoro Fellows, young leaders from Kakuma driving change within their community. They also toured local businesses and markets, where one moment stood out: the CEO of Haco Industries was astonished to discover her company’s products on store shelves in the camp — despite Kakuma’s remote location and fragmented supply chains.

This unexpected sight spoke volumes. It revealed both the resilience of displaced communities and the untapped potential of inclusive supply chains. For the CEO, it wasn’t just about product presence — it was a vivid reminder that displaced populations are not just recipients of aid but participants in economic ecosystems.
